Early Years Pupil Premium

At Little Pickles Nursery, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued and confident as they grow, learn and explore. Our nurturing, play-based approach supports each child as an individual, recognising that children learn best when they feel secure, supported and understood.

The Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) helps us provide additional support for children who may benefit from extra opportunities, ensuring all children can thrive and reach their full potential.

What is Early Years Pupil Premium?

Early Years Pupil Premium is additional government funding to support eligible children in early years settings. It is used to improve outcomes by supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing during these crucial early years.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy

We have a clear Pupil Premium strategy in place to ensure funding is used effectively and has a positive impact on children’s outcomes.

Our strategy is based on:

  • Knowing our children and families well

  • Identifying individual needs through observation and assessment

  • Planning targeted support to remove barriers to learning

  • Reviewing and adapting support to ensure it is effective

Pupil Premium funding is not used as a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, it is carefully planned around the needs of individual children and the cohort as a whole.

How We Use Pupil Premium at Little Pickles

Pupil Premium funding may be used to support:

  • Speech, language and communication development, including targeted activities and small group work

  • Emotional wellbeing and nurture, helping children to feel secure, confident and ready to learn

  • Individualised support for children with additional needs, including SEND

  • High-quality learning resources and experiences that enrich play and support development

  • Outdoor and sensory play opportunities, particularly for children who may have limited access to outdoor space at home

  • Staff training and professional development, ensuring our team can meet children’s needs effectively

All spending decisions are focused on improving outcomes for children.

Monitoring Impact

We regularly review the impact of our Pupil Premium strategy by:

  • Tracking children’s progress and development

  • Reflecting on how well support is meeting individual needs

  • Adapting strategies where necessary

  • Working in partnership with parents, carers and other professionals

This ensures the funding continues to be used meaningfully and effectively.

How to Apply

Parents and carers do not need to complete a separate application for Early Years Pupil Premium.

Eligibility is checked when you complete your funding declaration form. There is a tick box on the form that allows us to check whether your child is eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium.

By ticking this box, you give permission for us to carry out the eligibility check on your behalf.

All information is treated confidentially and is only used to ensure we can access the correct funding to support your child.

If you are unsure whether you may be eligible, or need help completing the form, please speak to a member of the Little Pickles team — we are always happy to help.

Working in Partnership with Families

We believe children thrive best when families and nursery work together. By working closely with parents and carers, we can ensure Pupil Premium funding is used in the most effective way to support each child’s development and wellbeing.
